As many fans know I’m a crew member on The Signal which is a podcast about Firefly and Serenity. One of our regular segments is the ‘Scifi Review’ where our writers look at other TV shows that they believe Firefly fans (aka Browncoats) will enjoy. In a recent episode we did a review of Blood Ties!
The Signal crew has graciously allowed me to share the entire review segment right here on our site!
This review is a great introduction to the TV show for new viewers and regular viewers will enjoy it as well. It does contain some very minor spoilers and, in my opinion, they will not impact your enjoyment of the show. This review was written and edited by Signal crew member Jill Arroway.
Just use the Play (
) button below to begin listening to this 15 minute audio review. Just be sure your speakers are turned up so you can hear it.
The music sample at the end of the recording is the song “Live Forever” which is sung by Tamara Rhodes with music and lyrics by James Jandrisch. Viewers in the US didn’t get to enjoy this opening theme. To view the non-US opening with this song you can go here.
If for some reason the player above doesn’t work for you then you can go to this page at The Signal’s website to download or play the entire episode. The Blood Ties review starts around the 51:30 mark.

Great review Kevin! The audio clips from the show were well chosen and I really loved that you ended with the theme song “Live Forever,” even though U.S. fans didn’t get to hear it when the show aired.

Thanks for all the great comments everyone. All the credit for this review goes to Jill. She’s the one who wrote it, selected the audio clips and then edited it all together. I was just the voice.
