Ask Amber: Housewives, Blood Ties & the strike
by Amber Dowling
Here is the Blood Ties question and answer…
I would like to know if Blood Ties has been renewed or cancelled? If renewed when can we expect to see new episodes? – Chris
Amber: I’m always amazed at how many people write in about this show. It’s probably because there’s so much confusion surrounding it: In Canada we got a 22-episode season, but in the States, Lifetime split into two seasons with the last two episodes only offered online, thanks to poor ratings. So now that there’s no U.S. backing, the show had to shut down in Canada. From what I can gather, there has been no official word either way about a renewal or cancellation here: the sets are still ready to use, the actors are willing to come back and some broadcasters have expressed an interest… but that’s where the hope ends. Lifetime has said they won’t be renewing it, despite the online petitions.
That’s all for this week!
Fall season is coming up! What’s coming back? What’s new? Heard about a pilot and want more info? As always, email me your questions anytime: amber@tvguide.ca

I wanted to let everyone know that we are making great progress on the Blood Ties podcast project.
I’ve setup a private forum so the crew members and other contributors can discuss creating and running the podcast. We also have a Wiki that will allow us to collaborate on things. I’ve been exchanging emails and having Skype calls with several people who are interested in helping out.
Not exactly sure when we will have our first episode available but we get closer each day so please stay tuned.
A few important points that folks have asked about…
the podcast will be free
you don’t need an iPod to listen……just a computer!
no technical skills are required to be able to listen
To learn more please visit our podcast page located here.

The Variety.com Ad Campaign committee recently posted a message on several of the Blood Ties fan forums and email lists with an update about the Variety.com ads.
Below is a copy of that message…
While the support and donations have been greatly appreciated, and have surpassed our expectations; we must ask everyone to please stop any and all donations at this time. We are currently waiting for recent donations to clear in Paypal, AND, we are waiting for Some checks that are in transit {mailed} to arrive and clear.
We cannot do anything else until all the funds have been cleared and secured from Paypal. Once this happens, we will be making updates as to the projected run-date online, along with the total for Paypal. The success of the ad donations may allow us to do more than we anticipated regarding the ad itself.
We hope that everyone understands our dilemma and while we appreciate everything that has been done, we must stop all donations …….this is only slowing us down. The Ad committee is as anxious as everyone else to get this ad running. It has been a long and stressful process. We will be making updates regarding all matters. Please be patient, as we are working diligently for this sole endeavor.
With much gratitude,
THE AD COMMITTEE

The Variety.com Ad Campaign is getting down to the final hours.
At last check we were only $800 short of the goal of $3,500 so we’re not quite there yet. Now is a critical time for us to be able to fund the ads since Blood Ties future is very much uncertain so this is a very important campaign. The deadline is May 15th so if you can please help make a difference!

As many of you are aware there has been an ongoing campaign to call Lifetime regularly to tell them how much we enjoy Blood Ties and to ask about it’s renewal status. Well this week a couple of long time fans were told by Lifetime that they will NOT be renewing the show.
We haven’t received any official confirmation from Lifetime as of yet but the folks who are sharing this information are well known and hard working members of the Blood Ties fandom.
You can check out the discussion threads at Bloodlines and Kyle’s Korner for more details.
There are many TV networks out there and there’s still a chance that another network will pickup the show. Blood Ties fans are already starting to plan campaigns to help the PTB (Powers That Be) at other networks realize what a great idea it would be to pickup the show.
As soon as we get more details on all these developments we’ll be sure to share them right away.

Blood Ties fan Cdnfreyja has posted some information on her blog with some of the details about the TV networks that have the rights to air Blood Ties in Canada. Starting in August of this year those rights move to a new network so now would be a great time to get in touch with the new network to let them know about the big and devoted fan base that’s out here.
Please check out all the details here to see how you can get involved.
This blog posting from another blogger includes a reply from the network showing which network will have the rights to air the show in Canada.

Along with sharing information about the many ‘Save Blood Ties’ campaigns we also want to periodically highlight some of the great fan sites that serve the Blood Ties fandom.
Today we have Blood Ties Central.
The site launched on Jan. 25, 2007 making it one of the first Blood Ties fansites on the Internet. Site creator Anne tells us that she is a long time fan of Tanya Huff’s books so she was very excited to find out early on that they were being made into a TV series. Ann lives in Denmark so she’s able to bring an international flavor to her site and to the Blood Ties fandom.
Along with many traditional fan resources on the site there are some unique things including an extensive music listing as well as a report from Anne’s visit to the set of Blood Ties. You can check out that report with photos here.
Anne’s support of Blood Ties doesn’t stop with her work on Blood Ties Central. She’s also created fan sites for some members of the Blood Ties cast as well. Below are the links to those sites…
Kyle Schmid Central
Dylan Neal Central
You can start your journey through Blood Ties Central here.
